WOMEN’S RAPIDS LOSE OUT TO MIDDLESEX IN OPENING CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH

Worcestershire Women’s Rapids went down by 168 runs in their opening Royal London County One-Day Championship Division Two encounter with Middlesex Women at Mill Hill School.

Middlesex totalled 271-7 in their 50 overs after electing to bat and then bowled out the Rapids for 103 in 32.5 overs.

Sophia Dunkley scored 138 off 116 balls for the home side with 14 boundaries and shared in stands of 90 with Emma Albery (19) and Beth Morgan (42 not out) for the third and fourth wickets respectively.

For the Rapids Sarah Green bowled a tight 10 over spell in which she conceded just 29 runs.

Emily Arlott and Clare Boycott picked up two wickets apiece for the Rapids and finished with 2-52 and 2-47 respectively from their 10 overs while Sally Clarke returned 1-49.

When the Rapids batted, number four Sarah Glenn top-scored with 31 off 49 balls with six boundaries.

Rachel Howells chipped in with 21 off 35 deliveries with three boundaries.

The Rapids are again in Division Two action today (Monday) when they take on Berkshire at Maidenhead CC.
