Worcestershire Supporters’ Association Latest Newsletter

The Worcestershire Supporters' Association have been active since the end of the 2015 season and successfully staged the ever popular Christmas lunch in the Graeme Hick Pavilion which was attended by 184 members and guests.

A number of people had to be told 'sorry, fully booked' so this year make sure you book early to avoid disappointment when the date is finalised. ______________________________________________________________________________

Stock is being ordered for the increasingly popular Supporters' Association club shop which is located at the rear of the Basil D'Oliveira Stand.

Feedback on the shop from members and visitors to New Road continues to be extremely positive and encouraging.

New ranges have been ordered for the forthcoming season – together with last season's popular clothing, headwear and other cricket related items.

A new item which will be on sale in 2016 is women's polo shirts and in addition there will be umbrellas, baseball caps, key rings, wristbands, mini torches, coasters, fleeces, hoodies, men's polo shirts, T-shirts and cushions.

The ever popular trio of cricket books – Wisden, Playfair and the Cricketers' Who's Who will again be available at discount prices in time for the first game of the season against Kent.

Andrew Thomas' book 'Pears 150' to mark the 150th Anniversary of Worcestershire CCC will also be on sale for £28 on match days.

The Supporters' Association are also contemplating another calendar for 2017 after the one for the current year rapidly sold out.

The Supporters' Association also intend to support Worcestershire CCC skipper Daryl Mitchell's benefit year by stocking benefit brochures, ties and baseball caps in their shop. ______________________________________________________________________________

The Association is delighted to be able to contribute towards the costs of new updated signeage being put into place around New Road which will ensure new visitors in particular will have plenty of information and directions about the pertinent places to visit on the ground.

This contribution will also pay towards the cost of updating the 'colours' and 'overseas players' boards situated at the back of the Basil D'Oliveira Stand.

It follows on from the Association funding the cost of the new public address system installed last summer at New Road.

There have been two new members elected to the Supporters' Association committee in Mick Douch and John Curtis, both of them making valuable contributions to the work of the association. ______________________________________________________________________________

The Fifty-Fifty Draw will again be operation and offers the chance to win prizes ranging from £50 to £500 in the four draws made each summer.

Already the 2016 draw has attracted 496 members – ahead of figure for the same period 12 months ago – and the entry fee is £20.

Entry forms, together with Supporters' Association members forms (£5 per annum to enter) are available from chairman Ken Mills on 01905 424576 or via the County Ground, New Road, Worcester, WR2 4 and, during the season, the Supporters' Association shop.

This season the Supporters' Association is reviving it's Player Of The Year award.

Only members of the Association will be eligible to vote so make sure you join if you want to vote for your Worcestershire player of the season.

The player with the most votes will be presented with a cheque at the Worcestershire CCC awards evening at the conclusion of the campaign. ______________________________________________________________________________

The Association again donated £5,000 to the Worcestershire CCC Academy and this was presented to Academy coach Elliot Wilson at the end of season awards evening.

The Association feels that its continuing support of the Academy is helping to produce players for first team cricket such as Joe Clarke, Ed Barnard, Tom Kohler-Cadmore and Brett D'Oliveira. ______________________________________________________________________________

The Association would like to thank outgoing Worcestershire CCC chief executive David Leatherdale for all his hard work over more than 30 years – both as a player and as CEO.

We would like to wish him al the best in his new role at the Professional Cricketers' Association.

The Association would also like to extend a warm welcome to the new CEO in Tom Scott and look forward to meeting him and continuing the relationship the Association enjoyed with David Leatherdale. ______________________________________________________________________________

The Association would also like to send best wishes to Worcestershire batsman Tom Fell in his battle against cancer and look forward to see him eventually back out in the middle at New Road and scoring many more runs for the County.
