Worcs 2016 Overseas Player Henry Blows Away Australian Top Order

Worcestershire 2016 overseas player Matt Henry helped destroy Australia's top order with a deadly blast as New Zealand won the opening ODI in Auckland by 159 runs today.

Paceman Henry, who will be at New Road from early April to late June, dismissed Shaun Marsh, Aussie skipper Steve Smith and George Bailey.

With Trent Boult picking up the other three wickets, Australia were reduced to 41-6 before being bowled out for 148 in just 24.2 overs in reply to the Black Caps 307-8 in 50 overs.

Henry made the first breakthrough when Marsh (5) edged through to Martin Guptill at slip.

He followed that up by dismissing former Worcestershire T20 player Smith who played on for 18 with 33 on the board.

Then the dangerous Bailey (2) was caught at mid wicket by Corey Anderson.

Henry finished with 3-41 from six overs and then another Worcestershire 2016 signing, all-rounder Mitchell Santner, wrapped up the innings.

Santner, who will play in the NatWest T20 Blast from mid May, only bowled two deliveries – and picked up two wickets in John Hastings (8) and Kane Richardson (19) to finish the match.

He had earlier showed his prowess with the bat by hitting an unbeaten 35 off 39 balls with two sixes.

Guptill had laid the foundations for the Black Caps total with a fine 90.
