Worcs 2017 Overseas Player Hastings Making Big Impression In Odi Cricket

Worcestershire 2017 overseas player John Hastings is making a big impression with ball and bat for Australia in One-Day International cricket.

Hastings, who will be at New Road for the majority of next summer, has registered his personal best performances in both facets of the game during the past five weeks.

The 30-year-old returned figures of 6-45 in the ODI clash with Sri Lanka in Dambulla on the last day of August.

Then yesterday Hastings, who previously played county cricket for Durham, scored his maiden ODI half century against South Africa in Centurion.

Hastings came to the wicket with the Aussies in trouble at 192-6 and hit 51 off 56 balls with two sixes and six fours.

He added 79 in 17 overs with George Bailey before holing out to long off to steady the ship as Australia reached 294-9 in their 50 overs.

But a remarkable innings by Proteas opener Quinton de Kock enabled the home side to romp home by six wickets with 82 balls to spare.

De Kock scored 178 off just 113 balls with 11 sixes and 16 fours – a total of 130 in boundaries.

Hastings bowled seven overs for 52 runs after taking the new ball and all the bowlers were powerless against such an onslaught.
