Worcestershire CCC Academy went down by 87 runs when they visited Malvern College First Eleven for their first match of the 2016 campaign after three previous wash-outs at Shrewsbury School.
But encouragingly it was three of the County's 2015-2016 Academy intake in Josh and Jack Haynes and Jack Charters who played important roles for the College in achieving their victory.
The Haynes brothers featured in a splendid opening stand of 188 with Josh making 76 and Jack 83 as Malvern College totalled 247-5 in their 45 overs.
Zain Hassan picked up two wickets for the Academy but Dom Badger and Matt Davis were the most economical bowlers with 1-37 in nine overs and 0-31 in 8 respectively.
Charters, who played for Fiji in the recent Under-19 World Cup, then dismissed Academy opener Adam Wiffen and finished with 1-30 from his eight overs.
Then the Haynes duo completed a successful day by each finishing with two wickets.
Hassan top-scored with 45 for the visitors with Jamie Hammond hitting 27 not out as the Academy closed on 160-8 from 45 overs.
