Worcestershire CCC Academy player Jack Haynes led from the front as the ECB Under-16 team who are touring Sri Lanka to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Bunbury Festival claimed an impressive win at the third attempt.
The tourists had lost their first two games, but bounced back with a comprehensive 99-run victory.
It gives them a chance of squaring the four-match series in the last match at the famous Galle International Cricket Stadium on Saturday.
Haynes opened the batting and top-scored with 93 from 108 balls, hitting six sixes and six fours as the ECB totalled 245 in their 50 overs.
He certainly has a liking for international opposition after scoring 131 for the County's Academy against Ireland Under-17s in another 50 over game last summer.
Haynes also hit 63 and 124 for the North-South side in the 'Best Of Bunbury's' match against London South East-South West at Loughborough at the end of last season after impressing in the main tournament at Radley College.
He recently returned from a spell playing grade cricket in Australia this winter, scoring 683 runs in 13 innings at an average of 62.09.
Kent wicketkeeper Jordan Cox provided lower-order momentum for the Under-16s with 30 off 12 balls as for the first time in this series the bowlers had a competitive target to defend.
They responded well, with Cox’s Kent team-mate Tom Davis taking the first wicket in an impressive opening spell.
Lewis Goldsworthy, a left-arm spinner from Cornwall who has joined the Somerset Academy, took three wickets, and there were two for Derbyshire spinner Hamidullah Qadri, as the Sri Lankan Under-16s were all out for 146.
