Worcs Lie Second As Cluster Of Teams Battle For Promotion

Worcs Lie Second As Cluster Of Teams Battle For Promotion

Worcestershire are still occupying second spot in Division Two of Specsavers County Championship despite their nine wicket defeat against Sussex at New Road this week.

With Nottinghamshire 35 points clear, the battle for the second promotion place is hotting up with four teams currently divided by only 17 points.

Skipper Joe Leach’s side are currently 15 points clear of their nearest rivals but Northamptonshire, Sussex and Kent all have a game in hand.

Worcestershire have accrued a healthy return of batting and bowling bonus points.

Their 32 out of a possible 50 for batting and 27 out of a possible 30 for bowling have only been surpassed by Nottinghamshire.

The County, who won their opening four matches, are next in Championship action against Gloucestershire at New Road starting on Bank Holiday Monday August 28.

Three of their last four games are at home and their remaining fixtures are:

Nottinghamshire (away) – September 5-8

Leicestershire (home) – September 12-15

Durham (home) – September 25-28
