Worcs V Notts Day Two Reaction: Brett D’oliveira

Brett D’Oliveira gave his reaction to BBC Hereford-Worcester’s Frank Watson at the end of day two of the Specsavers County Championship match with Nottinghamshire at Trent Bridge.

Worcestershire closed on 215-7 in reply to Nottinghamshire’s 499-9 declared.

The County’s interim captain said: “Obviously two very tough days for us. Nottinghamshire did very well to get up to the score they did and in reply we probably haven’t batted to the capabilities that we can.

“But also credit to their bowlers at the end there and, in the twilight and in the dark, it was quite tough to face.

“Is batting more difficult in the twilight period? In my opinion, yes. Under lights it is definitely a little bit more difficult. The ball seamed around a bit more and last night for us it actually swung a bit more.

“Is it a disappointment that no-one went onto from 20-30 to make a big score? Exactly that. The top six-seven, we need to have a look at ourselves a little bit and make those big scores and hundreds similar to their players.

“A great experience for young players? Definitely. Young players coming in and facing the likes of Stuart Broad and Harry Gurney and Luke Fletcher, and guys who have played international cricket, for them it’s a real test but also a great learning curve.

“You still have the hope on a good pitch one of the top five next time will get a big score? That will be in the plans when we have a chat, someone making that big score.

“There aren’t many demons in the pitch. It just nips around a bit more when the lights are on and makes it a bit more difficult and they have got some quality bowlers who are able to exploit that.”
