Worcestershire Women will be in action at New Road when they take on their Devon counterparts in a crucial ECB County Championship Royal London 50 Over clash tomorrow (Sunday) starting at 11am.

Worcestershire are currently lying in sixth spot in Division Two and victory at the County's headquarters will end any fears about relegation – two teams go down – and secure a healthy mid-table position.

The fixture follows on from the England Women's Ashes international which was staged at New Road five weeks ago.

Staying in Division Two will complete a successful season for Worcestershire Women as the same squad of players have been responsible for gaining promotion in the NatWest T20 competition as champions of Division Three.

Worcestershire have won all eight of their T20 matches and finished ahead of runners-up Hampshire Women and the trophy will be on display on Sunday.

The 50 over competition provides the bulk of the players selected by England Women, primarily from Division One where the likes of Surrey, Sussex and Kent – the county of England captain Charlotte Edwards – participate.

But Division Two is also a good standard of cricket and Sunday's game is well worth watching with admission free and the Graeme Hick Pavilion open for refreshments.

Worcestershire Cricket participation manager Andy Wheeler said: "Thanks to David Leatherdale (Worcestershire CCC chief executive) and the County Club for offering to host the game and it is the first time Worcestershire Women have played at New Road.

"It is a fantastic opportunity for them and a great experience for the players, five of whom in the squad are Under-17 and one Under-15 in what is an open aged team.

"If we beat Devon on Sunday, then we are safe from relegation. The girls have played some good cricket at times and, if a couple of close results had gone their way, they could be in maybe third or fourth.

"Basically the same players have won Division Three in the T20 competition and to do so with a 100% record is excellent."
