Richard Oliver helped Geelong City overcome home side Leopold to claim first innings points despite a late scare in a Geelong Cricket Association Division One encounter.
The Worcestershire opener and Geelong skipper was second top scorer with 39 and shared in a an opening stand with Steve Anastasiu (49) of 80.
It looked to have made sure of a comfortable success for the Sharks after they had dismissed Leopold for 140.
But the dismissal of Oliver, second out with the total on 93, was followed by two collapses which threw the result into doubt.
Geelong suddenly found themselves 95-5 and, after reaching 130-5, slumped to 135-8 before edging over the line to win by two wickets.
Oliver's side made up for lost time after the first day wash-out in the fixture last weekend.
He put Leopold into bat and his bowlers backed his judgement with all six used picking up at least one wicket as Leopold were bowled out in 48 overs.
Oliver held onto one catch and Geelong's eventual victory has taken them closer to securing a play-off spot.
Jack Shantry's side, Greenvale Kangaroos, came off second best on the opening day of their Victorian Premier Cricket Bartercard Men's Premier Firsts home clash with Melbourne University.
Greenvale elected to bat and were bowled out for 170 in 57.3 overs.
Shantry, who was promoted to number five after county colleague Ben Cox's return to New Road, made seven.
He bowled 11 overs for 15 runs as Melbourne reached 103-1 off 39 overs in reply. The game will be concluded next weekend.
