RUTHERFORD AND VOLTS SET PACE IN SUPER SMASH

RUTHERFORD AND VOLTS SET PACE IN SUPER SMASH

hamish rutherford’s side otago volts are the early pace-setters in new zealand’s super smash.

the worcestershire 2019 and 2020 batsman and his team-mates have won the opening two games in the t20 competition.

they triumphed today against northern districts by 43 runs in hamilton.

rutherford, who will be at New Road for all of next summer, had smashed 52 in his side’s opening win over auckland aces.

today he was dismissed for nine after picking up two fours in the opening over from anton devcich before falling to its final delivery.

but consistent scores down the order enabled the volts to follow up their 210-6 versus the aces with another challenging total of 198-6.

rutherford then made a significant contribution in the field in taking the catch which dismissed northern districts top scorer, joe carter, for 55.

it broke a partnership of 83 for the fourth wicket with brett hampton (52) as northern districts were dismissed for 155 in 19.4 overs.

rutherford and the volts will next be in action on thursday in the return match with auckland in dunedin.
