Seconds Edged Out In T20 Double Header

Seconds Edged Out In T20 Double Header

Worcestershire Seconds were edged out in two low scoring but exciting T20 encounters with their Yorkshire counterparts at Marske CC.

The Seconds lost the first encounter by five runs and the second by a single run but there were several encouraging performances particularly in the bowling department.

There was also a return to bowling for Josh Tongue after his back injury and he sent down two overs in Game One before being rested for Game Two.

Skipper George Rhodes turned in a fine all-round performance in Game One and paceman George Scrimshaw and spinner Ben Twohig returned fine figures in Game Two.

Yorkshire elected to bat in Game One and after being 57-0 at one stage were dismissed for 136.

Rhodes, fresh from his first team debut in a trio of white ball games, finished with 4-19 and Chris Russell 3-22 while Twohig also bowled a tight spell of 1-23 from his four overs.

Rhodes then hit a brisk 33 after opening the innings and Worcestershire were well placed at 59-1.

But the Yorkshire bowlers kept the pressure on and the visitors fell just short of their target on 131-7.

The Tykes also opted to bat first in Game Two and a stand of 66 between Matthew Waite and Mosun Hussain steered them to 86-2.

But Scrimshaw dismissed them both and picked up two other wickets in finishing with 4-20 from four overs.

Twohig also impressed and mopped up the tail and finished with 3-12 from his full quota of overs as Yorkshire were bowled out for 131.

Worcestershire in reply were boosted by a second wicket partnership of 63 between Alex Hepburn and Will Fraine in his first appearances of the season for the Seconds.

Rhodes weighed in with another 28 not out and his side were left needing eight from the final over from Jordan Thompson.

Twohig was bowled off the first delivery and, with two needed from victory from the final ball,  keeper Joe Dodd was run out going for a single at the non striker's end by Thompson as Worcestershire fell short by the narrowest of margins.
