TWOHIG AND COX’S FINE EFFORTS IN VAIN FOR SOUTHERN DISTRICTS

Ben Twohig provided late order defiance with the bat and picked up two wickets after Ben Cox’s earlier half century but their side, Southern Districts, were edged out by four wickets by home side Adelaide.

The Worcestershire duo played key roles in the second innings of the South Australia Cricket Association Premier Cricket first grade encounter after Adelaide had secured a first innings lead of 157.

Cox, who resumed onto 51, extended his third wicket partnership with Brendan McCormack to 138 before the latter was out for 66.

The County’s wicket-keeper batsman departed two runs later, also for 66 made from 108 deliveries with nine fours.

But then Twohig took the attack to Adelaide in making 48 off 65 balls with one six and seven fours.

He added 75 for the seventh wicket with Sunam Gautam (39) before he was narrowly run out.

Southern Districts were dismissed for 263 in 74.1 overs to leave Adelaide a modest 107 target.

But they ran into trouble against an attack which included Twohig and his two wickets in five ball – both lbw – reduced Adelaide to 63-6 before they achieved victory without any further loss.

Twohig returned figures of 6-1-27-2.

Josh Dell ended day one undefeated on 13 out of Mosman’s 31-0 in the New South Wales Premier Cricket first grade meeting with Parramatta.

The Worcestershire batsman and his team-mates spent most of the day in the field as Parramatta amassed 409-2 declared after being put into bat.
